“I’m only looking for T4T dates at the moment.”
This makes T4T a current dating boundary.
T4T means trans for trans. In dating, it describes trans people seeking connections with other trans people. A shared identity can create familiarity, but it does not decide who you want to meet, whether T4T is your only option or whether you are looking for friendship, dating or both.

T4T is not one gender combination and it does not determine anyone’s sexual orientation. A trans woman dating another trans woman, a trans man dating a non-binary person who identifies as trans, and people of other trans identities may all use the term when it fits them.
The label also says nothing by itself about exclusivity, commitment or relationship length. Some people date only T4T, some prefer it without making it a requirement, and others are simply open to it. In broader use, T4T can also describe friendship and community support, so ask whether someone means dating, friendship or either.
People decide for themselves whether trans describes them. Appearance, medical treatment and identity documents do not give someone else that decision.
A T4T label is clearer when it shows how much the preference affects your choices right now.
These are wording examples, not TS Dating categories or real member profiles. No one needs to prove that they are “trans enough” to satisfy another person’s test.
A dedicated T4T filter and a setting that limits profile visibility to other trans people are not confirmed for TS Dating. Treat T4T as profile wording unless a separate account control explicitly says otherwise.
| Choice | What it may affect | What you cannot assume |
|---|---|---|
| Profile wording | It tells a person reading your profile whether T4T is a boundary, preference or possibility. | Writing T4T does not automatically filter, rank or match profiles. |
| Search preferences | If a service offers the relevant controls, they may change which profiles appear in your own results. | A search preference does not necessarily decide who can see or contact you. |
| Visibility or contact settings | If explicitly available, they may restrict profile access or incoming contact. | They do not guarantee anonymity, prevent screenshots or prove another person’s identity. |
Familiarity can make conversation easier, but T4T does not replace mutual interest, time together or a compatible relationship plan. Keep room for ordinary attraction too: shared humour, common interests and things you would actually enjoy doing together.
| What still needs an answer | A direct question |
|---|---|
| Friendship or dating | “Are you looking for dates, friendship, or either?” |
| Mutual romantic interest | “Would you see this as a date, or more of a friendly meet-up?” |
| Real availability | “What kind of time do you have for dating right now?” |
| Relationship arrangement | “Are you looking for exclusivity, or something else?” |
Shared context may help you recognise part of another person’s experience, but it does not make your response automatically right for them.
“Would it help to hear what worked for me, or would you rather I just listen?”
Offer your experience without turning it into a prescription.
“What wording feels right for you?”
Use their answer instead of translating it into the terms you prefer.
Do not compare who is further along, ask for proof or turn a date into treatment advice. Medical experience is not a measure of whether someone belongs in a T4T connection.
Some T4T dates have mutual friends, attend the same events or belong to overlapping groups. That overlap is not automatic permission to share a person’s identity, screenshots, private experiences or the fact that you are dating.
“If we run into people we both know, how would you like me to introduce you?”
Yes, when a non-binary person identifies as trans and T4T describes the connections they want. Do not assume that every non-binary person uses the trans label.
No. Medical treatment, documents and appearance do not determine whether a person can identify as trans or describe a dating preference as T4T.
Yes. A person may be T4T-only at one point, prefer T4T without requiring it later, or change what they want as their circumstances change. State what is true for you now.
State whether T4T is a boundary, a preference or one possibility, then confirm that the other person wants the same kind of connection.
